gautierPieter A. Gautier is professor of economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and research fellow at CEPR, IZA and the Tinbergen Institute.

Previously he was associate professor at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and has had visiting positions at the Department of Economics of MIT, and Georgetown University.

His work is mainly on search theory. His current research interests include assignment models, directed search, search with heterogeneous agents, the marriage market, the housing market and external validity of experiments. 

Pieter Gautier has published in the American Economic Review, the Review of Economic Studies, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Labor Economics, American Economic Journals and the Review of Economics and Statistics. His work has featured in major media outlets in the Netherlands and in Germany.

He is cofounder of the European Search and Matching research group (SAM). He obtained his Ph.D. in economics in 1997 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
